Ira Gershwin wrote his first hit, The Man I Love, in 1924, and wrote hugely successful lyrics for three decades. He is best known for the wit and agility of the songs he wrote with his brother George. Always less flamboyant than George, Ira had a lyric-writing talent at least equal to the musical talent of his composer brother.
This biography fills a long-felt want - the life story of the "other half" of the Gershwin brothers.
