It's one of the best books about Gilbert ever produced: as well as the six libretti, there is a superb introduction by Professor Jane Stedman.
The Gilbert plays included are No Cards, Ages Ago (complete with Frederic Clay's score), Our Island Home, A Sensation Novel, Happy Arcadia, and Eyes and No Eyes. They contain many foreshadowings of the G&S operas, and the best of them are also extremely funny works in their own right.
