This book, the sequel to Jurassic Park, has as much claim on the description "mathematical curiosity" as its predecessor.
Crichton's character Dr Ian Malcolm is again the mathematical Jeremiah who pits his not-inconsiderable brain against the problems of survival in a totally unfamiliar world.
As in Jurassic Park, Crichton ackowledges that he has drawn on the work of researchers in many different fields. Theories work their way through to fact in this superb adventure story.
Don't be put off by the blockbuster hype - it's a worthy successor to Jurassic Park in its application of Chaos Theory (which has become known as Complexity Theory) to the real world.
